2021 – 2022

Project goals

The intervention focused on the renovation and energy efficiency of a portion of a farmhouse in the center of Quinzanello. The main goal was to connect the first and second floors with a new internal staircase, making both levels fully livable and functionally divided into living and sleeping areas.

Site conditions

The portion of the building had two floors that were completely separated and accessible only from the outside. Although structurally solid, the farmhouse showed signs of deterioration and required both functional and energy upgrades.

Design approach

The iron staircase became the centerpiece of the project, serving not only as a connecting element but also as an architectural feature in dialogue with the rustic character of the building. The first floor was reorganized as an open space, while the second floor hosts the sleeping area with a bedroom overlooking the double-height living space: this solution was designed to highlight the original roof beams upon entry and visually expand the interiors.

Details and materials

Preserving historical elements such as wooden beams and original terracotta tiles was a priority shared with the clients. Modern materials and furnishings, contrasted with the rural language of the original structure, create a bright, welcoming, and timeless atmosphere.
