Renovation of Via IV Novembre in Rezzato

Italy

An urban renewal project that restored quality and functionality to a central street, transforming it into a balanced pedestrian and vehicular infrastructure—accessible and attentive to the surrounding architectural and social context.

Year
2022 – 2024

Project goals

The project aimed to enhance Via IV Novembre 1918, an important axis of Rezzato’s historic center, by improving its urban functionality, accessibility, and integration with the existing architectural heritage. The work focused on optimizing parking areas, ensuring pedestrian safety, removing architectural barriers, and increasing public green spaces, balancing technical needs with aesthetic quality.

Site conditions

The street suffered from issues related to insufficient and poorly distributed parking, especially serving the theater and the Tito Speri primary school. Some sidewalks were undersized and not compliant with accessibility standards, while pedestrian routes were fragmented and inefficient.

Design approach

The project redesigned the entire street while maintaining material and stylistic coherence with recent works in the area, such as the CTM square. New angled parking spaces were introduced, pedestrian routes were redefined, and sidewalks were widened to ensure safety and accessibility.

Details and materials

Pedestrian paving was made with 6/8 cm red porphyry cubes laid in opposing arches, while vehicular areas used 10/12 cm porphyry. Green areas were redesigned with low-maintenance shrubs, bark mulch, and a drip irrigation system. Urban furniture was updated in line with the new spatial layout, with bollards, bins, and public lighting repositioned and reused where possible.
